Tradition
What is tradition and what has that got to do with you? I think tradition only exists as long as people keep it alive. Today is President's Day. Back in the 1880's it was created to honor President George Washington. Times were different then. Now it serves as an extra day off school and another sale at Macy's for many. We can choose to give some meaning to this holiday if we honor it in some way. You could have a George Washington Breakfast at your house and serve corn cakes topped with butter and honey. Some of the best learning experiences for children can happen at the table. Use the moment and teach some history lesson about George, or what things were like 1789 the year he was elected. Children learn to value tradition from the example you set. I don't know that my children "honor" Love Month but I believe they feel it has some value. If it helps them to be kinder, more tolerant, or more willing to express their love for others then I think it is a good thing don't you?
