Maybe you didn't see the Academy Awards on Sunday night and so I'll bring you up to speed. Ben Affleck's movie Argo won for Best Picture. When he got up to give his acceptance speech he thanked Canada and Iran and "my wife"...
"I want to thank you for working on our marriage for 10 Christmases. It’s
good, it is work, but it’s the best kind of work, and there’s no one
I’d rather work with."
There are people in the press who feel that this remark was some kind of declaration that "something is wrong" in their marriage. On the contrary -- something is very right in their marriage. Successful marriage takes WORK and lots of it.
Ben gave Jen a huge public compliment. He thanked her for all the effort she puts into their marriage. He acknowledged that she's his BEST partner. I have to say that I feel closest to my husband when we work together. Whether we're in a garden pulling weeds together, at the office both working at our business, or sharing the latest news about our kids there's that feeling that it's a shared endeavor between us. It's our work and our glory.
"You've got to give a little,
Take a little,
And let your poor heart break a little
That's the story of
That's the glory of -- love.
As long as there's the two of us
We've got the world and all it's charms
and when the world is through with us
we've got each other's arms.
You've got to laugh a little,
Cry a little
And let the clouds roll by a little
That's the story of
That's the glory of -- love."
